This costeffective, environmentally friendly project reflects a number of global trends. There’s nothing excessive or unnecessary about it — a relatively small (for a twostorey building) area and a limited budget ensured a highly rational approach. But the design is not just functional, it is also emotional. The first floor combines an entrance lobby, a living room and a kitchen, and the second floor accommodates private areas. The decor is sparse. The interior design incorporates exposed architectural materials — aerated concrete (AAC), regular concrete, metal — as well as natural wood (a fullfledged trend too) that is used on AAC walls of the living room in the form of vertical planks, and in the bedroom with its pine board covered walls.
The place sports mostly wooden flooring except for the one in bathrooms. With one of the house walls almost entirely replaced with glass (the groundfloor living room and the bedroom above both boast huge floortoceiling windows), there is a neverending game of in and out, the interior and exterior, going on. A green lawn enters the interior effortlessly, while a fencedoff courtyard acquires a homelike feeling. Countless objets d’art and decor elements in combination with furniture, manufactured by Ukrainian artisans, and Sergiy Makhno’s personal designs, add a touch of unique to the space.
